This month, we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Salmon! In addition to lifeguarding for Carmel Swim Academy, Andrew is working towards a Criminal Justice Degree at Ivy Tech. We asked him a few questions so you could get to know Andrew better.
How did you start working for the Carmel Swim Academy?
“I was recruited by my sister, Natalie, because she understood my liking for open and flexible work schedules. I needed a job with a great team that would help me fit in work with lots of other things going on, like sports and school, and CSA definitely provides that.”
How would you describe the culture at CSA?
“CSA has a lot of friendly, inspiring and conversational people both on the staff team as well as the people I meet everyday coming in to swim. I love talking and getting to know people, and it’s refreshing to have so many people eager to get to know me. Everybody is forgiving and looks out for each other, we all try to help each other out when something comes up which is something I never really got at other jobs.”

As a lifeguard and supervisor watching swim lessons, what is your favorite thing that you see during that time?
“I love when kids are leaving and they take the extra second to wave goodbye to the instructors for the second, sometimes third, time. I love the connections being built, the excitement that these kids show when they come into the pool, and the progress they show everyday.”

What do you like about working at Carmel Swim Academy?
“I love that everyone on the team understands that people have other things going on and that people make mistakes. With my past jobs, they never really thought about how much you have on your plate or why you may be struggling at work. This amazing team always works with you to make sure you’re comfortable and happy with your work life because they value you not just as a worker but as a person. The relaxed and familiar atmosphere makes it feel like I’m walking into a second home rather than a workplace, which is why I love CSA.”
